The Discovery Lab at a Glance

The Discovery Lab opened in the Fall 2025 Semester and provides over 6,000 square feet of technical space dedicated to enabling student-led collaborative research, prototyping, and experimentation. The Discovery Lab is a space for collaboration, exploration, and experiential learning able to support independent projects, collaborative undergraduate research experiences, industry engagement, workshops, class activities, and course-based undergraduate research experiences (CUREs).

Discovery Lab Space by Space

The Discovery Lab hosts nine different Technical Spaces and two dedicated Collaboration Spaces.

A multi-purpose collaboration space available for workshops, student events, meetings, drop-in design sessions, and class instruction. The Parlor is outfitted with mobile and fixed magnetic whiteboards, projector and screen, and modular furniture. An array of facilitation materials are available upon request to support programs.

Outfitted with 3-D printers and materials for prototyping, sensor development, etc.

Outfitted with state-of-the-art instruments for Gas Chromatography - Mass Spectrometry, Liquid Chromatography - Mass Spectrometry, microbial identification, polymer analysis, protein analysis, and more.

Equipped with an array of instruments for comprehensive molecular analysis of samples at a microscopic level. Stereo microscopes outfitted with cameras are available to gain a closer perspective on “larger” samples and objects.

Equipped with all the equipment you would need for electrical and electronic testing and prototyping.

Equipped with all the materials required for prototype design and assembly.

Outfitted with three desktop analytical machines available to support computational work, database generation, and machine learning.

Equipped with all the equipment and materials required to analyze all types of chemical and biological matter.

Outfitted with resources for processing water, soil, and other samples and specimens collected in the field.

A collaborative space for students, faculty, and staff to plan, brainstorm, and discuss.
