"Dirty Lab"

The "Dirty Lab" is outfitted with all required resources and equipment for processing water, soil, and other collected field specimens. The Dirty Lab is currently a Biosafety Level 1 facility but is the process of upgrading to a certified Biosafety Level 2 facility. All users working in the "Dirty Lab" are required to follow strict safety protocols and use mandatory personal protective equipment.

Sample Processing in the Dirty Lab: The Discovery Lab's "Dirty Lab can process samples for materials/organisms that: Are not associated with consistent disease in health adult humans; present minimal hazard to the environment; and only require general lab sterilization techniques for disposal.

The “Dirty Lab” CANNOT process samples that are: diagnostic specimens from humans or animals and/or acute biological toxins.
